The Legacy of Ishna J. Hall

The Ishna J. Hall Excellence Fund, established by Greer and Bryan Pope and supported by many College alumni, parents and friends, celebrates a beloved Tar Heel, colleague and treasured friend of the College of Arts and Sciences who passed away unexpectedly in 2019. Hall’s passion for Carolina was exemplified in her work as a member of the major gifts team at the Arts and Sciences Foundation and also through her dedication and service to her beloved sorority, the Kappa Omicron Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.

The fund honors Hall’s dedication to empowering young women and underrepresented minorities at Carolina by funding study abroad experiences for undergraduates.

Britney Burns ’22, a member of Delta Sigma Theta, studied at King’s College London in fall 2021 with support from the fund.

“Studying abroad not only provided me the chance to learn at a different university but also exposed me to different cultures from around the world,” Burns said. “The experiences, memories and friendships I made while abroad changed my life. My senior fall will always have a very special place in my heart. This amazing opportunity would not have been possible without the Ishna J. Hall Excellence Fund, and I cannot thank the donors and the Kappa Omicron Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta enough for this once-in-a-lifetime experience.”
